• Blue and purple luster dust together create a genuine galaxy effect — the colors shift as the drink moves
• Use a pinch of each color — less than you think, more shimmer than you’d expect
• Butterfly pea flower gin (or vodka) deepens the blue naturally, but any base spirit works
• The glitter stays active for the whole drink; no stirring needed after the initial swirl
Purple and blue edible glitter in the same glass sounds like a lot. It isn’t. The two colors layer and swirl together as you drink, and the effect is genuinely otherworldly — deep space captured in a coupe glass. Takes five minutes.
Ingredients
- 2 oz Gin or vodka (butterfly pea flower gin deepens the blue, but any spirit works)
- 0.5 oz Blue curaçao
- 0.5 oz Fresh lemon juice
- 0.5 oz Simple syrup
- 1 pinch Blue Luster Dust
- 1 pinch Purple Luster Dust
- 1 pinch Silver Luster Dust (optional, but worth it)
- Ice (for shaking)
Pop a coupe or martini glass in the freezer for a few minutes while you prep. A cold glass keeps the shimmer moving longer.
Put your pinch of Blue Luster Dust and Purple Luster Dust directly into the shaker. Add silver if you’re using it — it adds a starfield effect that’s hard to describe and easy to show off.
Pour in your gin, blue curaçao, lemon juice, and simple syrup. Fill with ice.
15 seconds, vigorous shake. This suspends the glitter particles through the whole drink — that’s what creates the galaxy swirl instead of glitter just sitting at the bottom.
Strain into your chilled glass. The drink should be a deep blue-violet with visible shimmer running through it. Hold it under the light for a second before you hand it over. People lose their minds.

Our [drinks guide](https://lusterdust.com/how-to-use-edible-glitter-in-drinks-the-complete-guide/) has the full breakdown on glitter in cocktails — ratios, technique, which colors work in which spirits. Worth a read before you scale this up for a party.
Literally the smallest amount you can pick up between two fingers. For this recipe, that’s about 1/16 teaspoon of each color. More glitter doesn’t mean more shimmer — past a certain point it just makes the drink look murky. One small pinch of each color is the move.
Yes. Sub in a splash of elderflower liqueur and add a tiny bit more lemon. The drink will be lighter in color, but the Blue Luster Dust will still hit. Butterfly pea flower syrup is another option — it turns deep blue on its own and reacts to the citrus in a cool way.
Swap the gin for sparkling water or a lightly flavored soda — blue raspberry works well, or just plain club soda. Skip the curaçao and double the simple syrup. The shimmer works exactly the same.
